Audre Lorde Day: 2016

{Editor’s Note: My non-existent assistant has been fired, for failing to remind me of the Audre Lorde Project’s Trans Day of Remembrance! This post was supposed to coincide with what I thought was Audre Lorde Day! However upon looking at the little calendar reminder, it dawns on me that they celebrated on the 17th last year, and the 15th this year. I kinda need this to be a set day on the calendar, I need people to care enough about Audre to make it a national holiday. Is that asking too much? Maybe, but those are the breaks. Without further ado, here are the memes specifically collected to cherish her by}
Audre Lorde (February 18, 1934 — November 17, 1992)

“Black and Third World people are expected to educate white people as to our humanity. Women are expected to educate men. Lesbians and gay men are expected to educate the heterosexual world. The oppressors maintain their position and evade their responsibility for their own actions. There is a constant drain of energy which might be better used in redefining ourselves and devising realistic scenarios for altering the present and constructing the future.” ― Audre Lorde, Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches

Audre Lorde Chalkboard Quote Women are powerful and dangerous

Favorite Quote, which was so hard to choose, but this one is resonating very strongly in my life right now:

“When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.”

― Audre Lorde
